Examining the High School Students' Self-Respect and Desolation Levels According To Frequency of Using Social Sharing Website Facebook and Some Applications of This Site

Abstract

Bu araştırmada lise öğrencilerinin sosyal paylaşım sitesi Facebook'u kullanım yoğunluğu ve sitenin bazı uygulamalarının kullanım sıklığına göre bu öğrencilerin özsaygı ve yalnızlık düzeylerinin karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi 2012–2013 Eğitim-Öğretim yılı Van İli Erciş İlçesindeki devlet liselerinde 1.2.3. ve 4. sınıflarda okuyan 764 öğrenci ile yapılan çalışmalardan oluşturulmuştur. Bu araştırma betimsel yöntemli ilişkisel tarama modelli bir yordama çalışması niteliğindedir. Veri toplama araçları olarak, Araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan Facebook Kullanımı-Uygulamaları Değerlendirme Anketi, UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği ve CooperSmith Özsaygı Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Veriler, SPSS paket programından yararlanılarak, frekans dağılımları Mann Whitney U ve Kruskal Walis Testi ile çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmanın bulguları incelendiğinde; Facebook'ta daha az vakit geçiren öğrencilerin özsaygı düzeylerinin facebook'ta daha fazla vakit geçirenlere göre daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Facebook'ta az arkadaşı olan öğrencilerin facebook'ta daha fazla arkadaşı olan öğrencilere göre yalnızlık düzeylerinin yüksek olduğu, yalnızlık düzeyleri en yüksek çıkan grubun ise Facebook'ta durum güncellemelerine çok nadir beğeni-yorum alan, çok nadir olarak Facebook'ta fotoğraf paylaşımı yapan ve Facebook'ta müzik-video paylaşımı yapmayan grup olduğu görülmüştür. Araştırma da genel olarak kullanıcıların yalnızlık ve özsaygı düzeylerinin Facebook kullanımı ve uygulamaları üzerinde etkili olduğu görülmüştür. Anahtar Sözcükler: Facebook, yalnızlık, özsaygı

The aim of this research is to compare high school students' self-respect and desolation levels according to frequency of using social sharing website Facebook and some applications of this site. The sample of research consists 764 students of 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th grade at state schools in 2012-2013 Education Year Erciş,VAN. This research is a kind of prediction study in descriptive way and relational scanning model. Facebook Use- Applications Evaluation Questionnaire prepared by the researcher, UCLA Desolation Scale and CooperSmith Self-Esteem Scale are used as data summation tools. The data is analyzed by taking the advantage of SPSS package programme. The distribution of frequency is analyzed by Mann whitney U and Kruskal Tests. When the findings of the research is examined, it is seen that the self-esteem level of students spending less time on Facebook is much more than the self-esteem of students spending much time on Facebook. The desolation level of students having less friends on Facebook is higher than the students having more friends on Facebook. The highest desolation level is observed at the group that rarely getting comment-like on status updates, sharing photos and music-video on Facebook. Generally, it is found that the desolation and self-esteem levels of users are effective on Facebook use and applications. Key Words: Facebook, desolation, self-esteem
