A Research on the Internal and External Structure Features of Life Science Textbooks

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı; hayat bilgisi ders kitaplarının dış yapı (genel tasarım, görseller) ve iç yapı (içerik, dil ve anlatım, etkinlikler, ölçme ve değerlendirme) özellikleri açısından yeterlik durumunu öğretmen görüşleri doğrultusunda incelemektir. Araştırmanın verileri Van İl Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğüne bağlı okullarda görev yapan ilkokul 1, 2 ve 3. sınıf öğretmenlerinden toplanmıştır. Verilerin toplanmasında araştırmacı tarafından oluşturulan Hayat Bilgisi Ders Kitabı Değerlendirme Anketi'nden ve yapılandırılmış görüşme formundan yararlanılmıştır. Üzerinde görüş alınan ders kitapları 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılında Van ilinde okutulan, İlkokul Hayat Bilgisi 1. Sınıf Ders Kitabı (Pasifik Yayınları), İlkokul Hayat Bilgisi 2. Sınıf Ders Kitabı (Yıldırım Yayınları) ve İlkokul Hayat Bilgisi 3. Sınıf Ders Kitabı'dır (Dizin Yayıncılık). Araştırma, hem nitel hem de nicel yöntemin bir arada kullanıldığı karma yöntem anlayışına sahiptir. Bu açıdan karma yöntem desenlerinden biri olan çeşitleme deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel verileri SPSS 26 paket programı ile nitel verileri de betimsel analiz yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, hayat bilgisi ders kitaplarının genel tasarım ve kullanılan görseller açısından 1 ve 2. sınıf öğretmenlerinin çoğunluğu tarafından kısmen yeterli, 3. sınıf öğretmenlerinin çoğunluğu tarafından ise yeterli bulunduğunu göstermektedir. Ayrıca katılımcıların çoğunluğunun içerik, dil ve anlatım yönünden hayat bilgisi ders kitaplarını kısmen yeterli buldukları tespit edilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra katılımcıların çoğunluğunun hayat bilgisi ders kitaplarını etkinlikler, ölçme ve değerlendirme uygulamaları yönünden kısmen yeterli buldukları sonucuna da ulaşılmıştır. Genel olarak, katılımcıların çoğunluğu tarafından hayat bilgisi ders kitaplarının kısmen yeterli bulunduğu ve geliştirilmesi gerektiği araştırmanın ulaştığı en önemli bulgular arasındadır.The aim of this study is to examine the adequacy of life science textbooks in terms of external structure (general design, visuals) and internal structure (content, language and expression, activities, assessment and evaluation) in line with teachers' opinions. The data of the study were collected from primary school 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade teachers working in schools affiliated to Van Provincial Directorate of National Education. Life Science Textbook Evaluation Survey and the structured interview form created by the researcher were used to collect the data. The textbooks on which opinions were received consist of the following books taught in the province of Van in the 2021-2022 academic year: the primary school 1st grade life science textbook (Pasifik Publications), primary school 2nd grade life science textbook (Yıldırım Publications) and primary school 3rd grade life science textbook (Dizin Publishing). The research has a mixed method approach in which both qualitative and quantitative methods are used together. In this respect, the variation design, which is one of the mixed method designs, was used. The quantitative data of the research were analyzed with the SPSS 26 package program and the qualitative data were analyzed with the descriptive analysis method. The findings show that the general design of the life science textbooks and the visuals used are partially sufficient by the majority of the 1st and 2nd grade teachers, and sufficient by the majority of the 3rd grade teachers. In addition, it was determined that the majority of the participants found the life science textbooks partially sufficient in terms of content, language and expression. In addition, it was concluded that the majority of the participants found the life science textbooks partially sufficient in terms of activities, measurement and evaluation practices. In general, it is among the most important findings of the research that life science textbooks are partially sufficient and should be improved by the majority of the participants.
