Beyaz Adamın Gelişinin Louise Erdrich Karekterleri Üzerindeki Etkileri

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, beyaz adamın gelişinin Louise Erdrich`in karakterleri üzerindeki etkisi incelenmiştir. Hem yetişkin hem de çocuk kitaplarını içeren toplamda on iki tane kitabı incelenmiştir. Louise Erdrich`in beyaz adamla yerlilerin birbirleriyle kurdukları temas hakkında bilinçli olduğu kesin. Aynı zamanda bu temas yüzünden Kızılderili kabilelerdeki değişimin nasıl olduğunu göstermede de çok başaralı olmuştur. Bu çalışmanın amaçlarından bir tanesi de, Beyaz adamın niyetini göstermektir; yerlileri medenileştirmek mi yoksa ucuz sermaye ve daha fazla altın elde etmek mi. Kayda değer başka bir amaç ise Beyazlarla yerlilerin etkileşiminin nasıl meydana geldiğini göstermek ve bu etkileşimin sonuçlarını ortaya koymaktır. Erdrich yetenekli bir yazardır. Tarihi yansıtırken, asla eklemeler ve yönlendirmeler yapmamıştır. Aksine, Beyazlarla yerlilerin temasının etkilerini tarafsız ve önyargısızca ortaya çıkarmıştır.

In this thesis, the effects of white man?s arrival on Louise Erdrich?s characters are examined. Twelve works of Erdrich are studied. These writings include adult novels as well as children books. It is certain that Louise Erdrich is aware of the contact of the white man to the Native Americans. Additionally, she is very successful reflecting how the change occurs in the Native tribes due to the contact. One of the goals of this study is to clarify whether the white man`s aim is to civilize Indians or they are there to find cheap labors. Another aim of this paper is to depict what has happened and how it has happened due to the interaction between the white man and the Native Americans. Being a very talented writer, while monitoring the history, Louise Erdrich never colors the reality. On the contrary, she reveals the effects of the contact in an unprejudiced way.
