Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between teachers' perceived parental attitudes and their self-compassion levels. The correlational survey model, a quantitative research design, was used in this study. The sample of the research was determined using cluster sampling method. The research was conducted with 374 teachers working in schools in the İpekyolu, Tuşba, and Edremit central districts of Van province during the 2022-2023 academic year. 'Self-Compassion Scale' and 'Parental Attitude Scale' were used as data collection instruments in this research. Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation), inferential statistics (independent samples t-test, ANOVA), Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient, and stepwise regression analysis were used in the data analysis of the research. As a result of the research; it was found that teachers perceived parental attitudes more as democratic attitudes, men had a higher perception of protective-demanding attitude compared to women, there was a significant difference in the perception of protective-demanding attitude according to the father's level of education being high school or primary school, and there was no significant difference between parental attitudes and age. It was determined that teachers' perceived self-compassion level was moderate and male teachers had a higher level of self-compassion compared to female teachers. While there was no significant differentiation in self-compassion level according to father's education level, it was found to be significant in favor of university graduate mothers. There was no significant differentiation in self-compassion level according to age. A significant relationship was found between perceived parental attitudes and self-compassion levels; a positively moderate relationship between democratic attitude and self-compassion, and a negatively moderate relationship between protective-demanding attitude, authoritarian attitude, and self-compassion were identified. It was found that democratic attitude predicted self-compassion by 15.6%, and when combined with protective-demanding attitude, it predicted it by 18.3%.
