Abstract
This study is based on an examination of the playwrights, Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht and Lynn Nottage in the context of intertextuality between the theme and character elements of both. In these comparisons to be made in the context of intertextuality, on the one hand, Brecht's play Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder (Mother Courage and Her Children-1939) and on the other hand, Lynn Nottage's Ruined (2009) will be the main sources of the study. The purpose of the study is; to comparatively present similar themes and views that both playwrights deal with. Common themes in both plays, such as marginalised lives, the working class, post-war effects, and the mentality of profiteering from war, will be tried to be evaluated. These themes, which were handled quite similarly by two playwrights, will be compared and the similarities between them will be pointed out scene by scene. Based on the conclusion of all these similarities, it will be argued that Ruined is a pastiche work of Mother Courage and Her Children within the intertextual relations.
