The Theme of Death and Rebirth as the Inner-Journey in Ömer Erdem's Poetry
Abstract
Ömer Erdem is one of the poets who has esteblished an original world of poetry without breaking up his connection with traditional norms in Turkish poetry after 1980. One of the themes coming forth in Erdem's poetry is death and rebirth which could be evaluated as an inner-journey. This is a struggle of a humanbeing trying to seperate himself from negative aspects of life and to realize his existence suitable for his own being. This theme has been focused on the inner world in his early poetry. In the latter poetry it opens up itself to society and in the last period of his poetry it turns towards individual again. The plain discourse banned on symbols in his poetry brings with a mytsic and divine background of tradition.
