An Examination on the Trends of the Articles Published in the Field of Speaking Skills and Their Compliance With Academic Text Writing Principles

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, 2005-2021 yılları arasında konuşma eğitimi alanında yayımlanan makalelerin eğilimleri ile akademik metin yazma ilkelerine uygunluğunu incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemine uygun olarak hazırlanmıştır Çalışmanın verileri doküman incelemesi/taraması modeliyle toplanmıştır. Çalışmanın materyalini, konuşma eğitimi alanında yayımlanan 348 makale oluşturmuştur. Çalışmada incelenen makalelere Google, Google Akademik ile Dergi Park veri tabanları taranarak ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma çerçevesinde incelenen makalelerin eğilimleri 'çalışma grubu, yöntem, ilişkili olduğu dil becerisi, konu ve yayım yılına' göre değerlendirilmiştir. Makaleler, akademik metin yazma ilkelerine uygunluğu bakımından 'başlık, yazar bilgileri, özet, anahtar kelimeler, giriş, yöntem, bulgular, sonuç, tartışma, öneriler, kaynakça ve metin içi atıf' alt boyutlarında incelenmiştir. Çalışmaların eğilimlerini belirlemek için 'Eğilimleri Belirleme Formu (EBF)', makalelerin akademik metin yazma ilkelerine uygunluğunu belirlemek için ise 'Makale Kontrol Formu (MKF)' kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama araçlarıyla elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre makalelerde en fazla nitel, en az karma yöntem kullanıldığı; konuşma becerisinin okuma, yazma ve dinleme öğrenme alanlarıyla birlikte ele alan çalışma sayısının az olduğu; makale sayısında son yıllarda bir artış ve yığılmanın olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Konuşma eğitimi makalelerinde özet, giriş, yöntem, tartışma, kaynakça ve metin içi atıflarda eksiklikler olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın eğilimlerine yönelik daha geniş ve daha kapsamlı sorular doğrultusunda yeniden incelenmesi önerilmektedir. Çalışmanın akademik metin yazma ilkelerine uygunluğuna yönelik de araştırmacıların akademik metin yazma sürecine dair bilimsel araştırma yöntemleri derslerine yoğunlaşabilecekleri önerilmektedir.

The purpose of this study is to examine the trends of the articles published in the field of speaking education between 2005 and 2021 and their compliance with the principles of academic text writing. For this purpose, the study was prepared in accordance with the qualitative research method. The data of the study were collected with the document review/scanning model. The material of the study was 348 articles published in the field of speaking education. The articles examined in the study were accessed by scanning Google, Google Scholar and Dergi Park databases. The tendencies of the articles examined within the framework of the research were evaluated according to 'study group, method, related language skill, subject and publication year'. The articles were examined in terms of their compliance with academic text writing principles in the sub-dimensions of 'title, author information, abstract, keywords, introduction, method, findings, conclusion, discussion, suggestions, bibliography and in-text citation'. 'Trends Determination Form (EBF)' was used to determine the trends of the studies, and 'Article Control Form (TKF)' was used to determine the conformity of the articles with academic text writing principles. Descriptive analysis technique was used to analyze the data obtained through data collection tools. According to the results of the research, qualitative methods were used the most in the articles and mixed methods were used the least; The number of studies dealing with speaking skills together with the learning areas of reading, writing and listening is low; It has been determined that there has been an increase and accumulation in the number of articles in recent years. It has been concluded that there are deficiencies in the abstract, introduction, method, discussion, bibliography and in-text citations in speaking education articles. In this context, it may be suggested that the study be re-examined in line with broader and more comprehensive questions regarding its tendencies. Regarding the compliance of the study with academic text writing principles, it can be suggested that researchers can focus on scientific research methods courses on the academic text writing process.
