The Problems Faced by Information Technologies Teachers Working in Secondary Schools About Information Technologies Education and Their Approaches to These Problems (Van Sample)
Abstract
Information technologies course is an important field of education that aims to provide students with basic skills to use technology effectively and consciously in today's digital age. This course provides students with digital literacy, problem solving, critical thinking and creative competences and contributes to their future career preparations and integration into the digital society. However, the effective teaching of this course is becoming more difficult today due to various problems faced by teachers. ICT teachers struggle with technical problems such as infrastructure deficiencies in schools, old and inadequate hardware, and internet access problems. In addition, curricula that cannot keep up with the rapid changes in technology, limited lesson hours and low student motivation negatively affect the quality of education. The fact that parents do not attach enough importance to ICT courses and that school administrations' budget support is insufficient make teachers' work even more difficult. In addition, teachers' difficulties in accessing in-service trainings limit their ability to follow technological developments and apply them in their lessons. Therefore, this study aims to examine the problems faced by secondary school ICT teachers in ICT education and their approaches to these problems. The study was conducted with 63 information technologies teachers working in the central districts of Van province (Tuşba, İpekyolu, Edremit) in the 2023-2024 academic year. The study addressed basic issues such as teachers' professional experiences, difficulties in curriculum implementation, infrastructure problems, student motivation, attitudes of parents and school administrations.
