An Ecofeminist Reading of Latife Tekin's Muinar and Charlotte Perkins Gilman's Herland

Abstract

20. yüzyılın son çeyreğinden bu yana çağımızın en önemli sosyal sorunlarından biri olduğunu söyleyebileceğimiz iki konu bulunmaktadır: kadın ve çevre sorunları. Her iki sorunun çözümü için de mücadele eden düşünce sistemleri vardır. Kadın sorunlarının çözümü için mücadele eden hareket ve düşünce sistemi feminizmdir. Çevre sorunlarının çözümü için ise mücadele eden hareket ve düşünce sistemi ekolojidir. Çevresel sorunların zamanla tehlikeli bir boyuta ulaşmasıyla feministlerin ekoloji hareketine olan ilgisi de 20. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren artmaya başlar. Ekolojik taleplerin artmasıyla, kadın çalışmalarında ayrı bir alan olarak gelişen ekofeminizm, farklı feminist ve ekolojik yaklaşımları birleştirmiştir. Ekofeminizm, tahakküme dayalı ilişkilerle örülü dünyada baskısız, adaletli, eşitlikçi ve yaşanılır bir yaşama ancak çevre sorunlarının feminist bir yaklaşımla ele alınmasıyla erişilebileceğini savunur. Kadın ve çevre sorunlarının kaynağının erkek egemen anlayış olduğu vurgulanan bu çalışmada Latife Tekin'in 'Muinar' ve Charlotte Perkins Gilman'ın 'Kadınlar Ülkesi' adlı eserleri ekofeminizm ekseninde değerlendirilmeye çalışılacaktır.

Since the last quarter of the 20th century, there have been two issues that can be considered the most important social problems of our age: women and environmental problems. There are thought systems that struggle to solve both problems. The movement and thought system that struggles for the solution of women problems is feminism. The movement and thought system that struggles for the solution of environmental problems is ecology. Feminists' interest in the ecology movement began to increase as of the second half of the 20th century, as environmental problems reached a dangerous level over time. With the increasing ecological demands, ecofeminism, which developed as a separate field in women studies, combined different feminist and ecological approaches. This study argues that the source of women and environmental problems is the male-dominated understanding, and the starting point of ecofeminism, which argues that a free, egalitarian and livable life in a world woven with relations based on domination, can only be achieved through a feminist approach to environmental problems, and by considering the transformations it underwent in the following process. Therefore in this study, Latife Tekin's Muinar and Charlotte Perkins Gilman's Herland were evaluated on the axis of ecofeminism.
