Abstract
In this study, it was aimed to examine the versatile leadership orientations and decision-making skills of high school students who do and do not do sports in terms of some variables. The population of the study consisted of students between the ages of 14-18 studying at all levels of high schools affiliated to the National Education Directorate of Van Province, while the sample group consisted of 450 students (188 female, 262 male) studying in different schools. The personal information form prepared by the researcher, the 'Melbourne Decision Making Scale (MCDS)' developed by Mann et al. (1998), adapted into Turkish by Deniz (2004) and validity and reliability studies, and the 'Multifaceted Leadership Orientations Scale (MLAS)' developed by Dursun, Günay, and Yenel (2019) were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using the SPSS package program. Since the data were not normally distributed, Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare two-level variables and Kruskall-Wallis H test was used to compare more than two groups. In this study, the significance level was accepted as p˂0.05. As a result, according to the gender variable, a significant difference was observed in favor of women (p<0.05). In the leadership sub-dimensions of political, structural, human resource and charismatic leadership, a significant difference was observed in favor of men (p<0.05). No significant difference was found in decision-making self-esteem, avoidant decision-making, procrastinatory decision-making, panic decision-making sub-dimensions (p>0.05). When we look at the mean ranks of avoidant decision making according to the variable of doing sports, a significant difference was observed in favor of those who do not do sports. There was a significant difference in the mean ranks of charismatic leadership in favor of those who do sports (p<0.05). According to the rank means of the variable of reading books, there was a significant difference in favor of those who do not read books only in postponing decision-making sub-dimensions (p<0.05) Keywords: leadership orientations, decision making skills, sports, high school students.
