Abstract
This study was carried out in the district of Gevas located in the Lake Van Region (East Anatolia) between the years of 1995 and 1998. In the study, it was aimed to determine the promising walnuts and to preserve as valuable genetic sources (Juglans regia L.) within existing population, all of which consisting of seedling trees. Thus, walnut preselections on which initial observations and evaluations were done before were investigated for long time so that they could be better illustrated. As a result of observations for four years, valuable selections were studied, and they were regarded as promising. Selections had nut weight between 10.38 and 17.04 g, kernel weight between 5.85 and 7.88 g, shell thickness between 0.86 and 1.75 mm, kernel percentage between 45.09 and 59.27 %, oil content between 55.74 and 68.52 %, and protein content between 16.21 and 21.86 %. In addition, nut dimensions, kernel color, lateral pistillate flowering percentages, and flowering characteristics etc. were also evaluated.
