Book Part 0d, 1d, 2d, and 3d Soft and Hard Templates for Catalysis(Elsevier Science Bv, 2017) Butun, Sultan; Demirci, Sahin; Yasar, Alper O.; Sagbas, Selin; Aktas, Nahit; Sahiner, NurettinArticle [1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-G]quinoxaline Acceptor-Based Donor-Acceptor Polymers: Effect of Strength and Size of Donors on the Band Gap(Wiley, 2017) Gokce, Gurcan; Karabay, Baris; Cihaner, Atilla; Ozkut, Merve IcliElectrochromic polymers based on [1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-g]quinoxaline acceptor and thiophene, 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene and 3,3-didecyl-3,4-proylenedioxythiophene donors, namely poly(6,7-diphenyl-4,9-di(thiophen-2-yl)-[1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-g]quinoxaline) (P1), poly(4-(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin-5-yl)-9-(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin-7-yl)-6,7-diphenyl-[1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-g]quinoxaline) (P2), and poly(4-(3,3-didecyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-thieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxepin-6-yl)-9-(3,3-didecyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-thieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxepin-8-yl)-6,7-diphenyl-[1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-g]quinoxaline) (P3), respectively, were electrochemically and/or chemically synthesized and characterized. Electrochemical and optical properties of the polymers were then investigated. The results, which were obtained electrochemically and optically, indicate that the polymers bearing the same acceptor and different donor units have a band gap range of 0.59-1.24 eV depending on the strength and size of the donor units and band gap determination method. A significant finding in this study was the phenomenon that when the acceptor is physically huge, the general rule that a weak donor would have a high band gap whereas a strong donor would have low band gap can be broken due to the torsional angles/steric hindrances involved with physically large donor molecules. The betaine acts as a 4 pi-component across its 2,6-positions and certain C=C bonds of C-70 act as 2 pi-component in the 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions considered presently. Various cycloadducts are structurally possible because C-70 structure possesses 8 different 2 pi-components, therefore 8 different pairs of reaction termini exist. The results indicate that, the cycloadducts (including regioisomers) formed with [6, 6]-type double bond are more stable and less endothermic than adducts formed with the [5, 6]-type with some exceptions. Some structural, spectral and physicochemical properties of these cycloadducts have also been studied.Article The 2011 Van Earthquake S and Resilience in the Urban Population(Istanbul Univ, Fac Letters, dept Geography, 2022) Choi, Jae hun; Alaeddiginoglu, FarukAbout a decade after the 2011 earthquakes, can people say that the city of Van has recovered now? This study purposes to answer this question by presenting a method for measuring the shock and process of recovering from an earthquake in terms of resilience and to provide objective results indicating whether or not Van has recovered from the shock of the 2011 earthquakes using this method. This study presents a method for measuring resilience in terms of population and local economic resilience. This study proposes the following five variables for measuring resilience in terms of population: decline year, drop (the degree of decline than expected), rebound (the velocity of recovery from decline), resilience index, and slope change (of the population regression equation). By synthesizing the resilience measurement results up to the end of 2019, the population growth rate of the whole city has yet to return to pre-earthquake levels. When measuring the resilience indicators at the neighborhood level, the neighborhoods that Housing Development Administration of Turkiye (TOKI) had built and the neighborhoods around the city center show high resilience. The resilience indicators for neighborhoods near TOKI were low. The conclusion is that appropriate measures have not been taken from the perspective of the entire city of Van to overcome the effects of the 2011 earthquakes.Article Aas Determination of Some Trace Heavy Metals in Lake Van Water After Preconcentration by Complexation With Surface Functional Groups on Activated Carbon(Parlar Scientific Publications (p S P), 2005) Kiliçel, F; Gökalp, FThe adsorption of some trace heavy metals on a granulated, pure and activated carbon (Riedel-de Haen, 18002) was characterized assuming that it takes place by formation of complexes with functional groups, present in the activated carbon. The concentrations were determined for each element in aqueous suspension at constant acidity. An atomic absorption spectrometric method for the determination of the trace heavy metals (Zn, Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni, Cu, Co, Bi, Mn) in Lake Van water and that of the rivers flowing into the lake has been developed after adsorption of their diethyldithiocarbamate (DEDTC) complexes on activated carbon. Complexes were adsorbed on the adsorbent at pH 3.2 +/- 0.1. Trace heavy metal ions were elueted with 20 ml of 1 M HNO3 and determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). Under optimum conditions, the trace heavy metal ions in aqueous samples were concentrated about 50-fold by column treatment and recovery rates of the investigated metals were in the range 79-106%.Article Ab Initio Calculation of Physical Properties of Sodium Chloride(Amer Scientific Publishers, 2013) Dogan, Emel Kilit; Secuk, Nurullah; Erdinc, Bahattin; Soyalp, Fethi; Akkus, HarunWe have calculated the structural, electronic, optical, dynamical, and thermodynamical properties of sodium chloride crystal using the density functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation. The calculated results for each physical property are presented and compared with available experimental data and previous theoretical data. There are controversial reports in the literature on the electronic band structure of sodium chloride. We especially present data and comments about this controversial subject.Article Abstrackt Pictorial Images in the Teaching of Shaman(Anadolu Univ, 2011) Kiran, HasanImages could be regarded as internalized sensations. They stand for the state where outputs of the earth react in human sensitivity. One can visualise the image of an object in its absence and create its visual illustration. Artist can express shamanistic messages through myths in the form of symbols. Since shaman's world conserve its natural and unique mystery ever, artists tend to employ it in their works. Particularly shaman's unique, creative and natural dance, his inner trance state, ecstasic instrument playing, rich imagination, experiences and esoteric sayings arouse artists's interest. All these aspects could be utilized as essential elements in the world of imagery.Article Accessibility Analysis of Urban Green Space: the Case of Erbil City(Konya Technical Univ, Fac Architecture & design, 2023) Kemec, Serkan; Abdalkarim, Salar HassanUrban green areas are open spaces in urban areas that are mainly covered by vegetation. They can be public or private urban green spaces that include parks, community gardens, forests, and nature reserves. Parks are an important component of urban quality of life if they are well designed and accessible. Accessible parks contribute to physical activity among urban residents. Therefore, the objective of the study was to identify the most significant main accessibility factors that discourage the use of public urban green areas, and examine the extent to which they influence the use of green areas in residential areas of the city of Erbil. This study was conducted in 2017 and 2020 to measure the accessibility of green spaces using network analysis with GIS for Erbil city. The present study represents the first known investigation regarding the accessibility of public green spaces within the city of Erbil. The results show that for community parks, 68% of the population has access with a travel time of 5 minutes, 99% of the population has access with a travel time of 10 minutes, and 100% of the population has access with a travel time of 15 minutes. For district parks, 70% of the population had access with 5 minute drive time. With 10-minute drive time, 96% of the population had access and 100% of the population had access with 15-minute drive time. For neighborhood parks, the results show that 43% of the population had access with 5-minute walk and, 71% of the population had access with 10-minute walk. At 15-minute walk time, 80% of Erbil residents had access to neighborhood parks. Mini parks were accessed by 22% of the population with a 5 minute walk and they were accessed by 52% of the population with a 10 minute walk. With a 15 minute walk, mini parks were accessible to 70% of the population.Conference Object Accumulation and Distribution of Iron, Zinc and Manganese Ions in Pumpkin (Cucurbita Spp.) and Gourd (Lagenaria Siceraria) Accessions Subjected To Drought Stress(Cukurova Univ, Fac Agriculture, 2012) Yasar, F.; Uzal, O.; Kose, S.The aim of this study was to observe the distribution of ions in different organs of pumpkin and gourd accessions commonly grown in Turkey, in order to better assess drought stress-tolerance mechanisms. Seedlings of 38 accessions of pumpkin (Cucurbita spp.) and gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) were cultured in cups containing Hoagland's nutrient solution in a controlled climate chamber. To simulate drought stress, 15% polyethylene glycol (PEG6000), equivalent to -0.60 Mpa of osmotic potential, was added to the nutrient solution. Following its application, the accumulation and distribution of iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and manganese (Mn) ions in the roots, shoots, and leaves of the seedlings were observed using atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) flame photometry. Ion accumulation increased in plants subjected to drought stress in comparison to the control plants. The greatest increase occurred in the leaves.Conference Object Acid/ Base Doped/ Dedoped Low Band Gap Polymer(Amer Chemical Soc, 2016) Karabay, Baris; Gokce, Gurcan; Cihaner, Atilla; Icli Ozkut, MerveBook Part Across Generations: Shifting Moralities and the Cost of Freedom(I B Tauris & Co Ltd, 2018) Tuncer, SeldaArticle An Action of a Regular Curve on R3 and Matlab Applications(Rgn Publ, 2013) Karakas, Bulent; Baydas, SenayWe define an action set of a regular curve not passing origin using a normed projection. If alpha(t) is a regular curve not passing origin, then the curve beta( t) = alpha( t)/parallel to alpha(t)parallel to is on unit sphere. beta(t) is called normed projection of alpha(t) [ 3]. Every point b(t) subset of beta(t) defines an orthogonal matrix using Cayley's Formula. So we define an action set R-alpha(t) subset of SO(3) of alpha(t). We study in this article some important relations alpha(t) and R-alpha(P), orbit of point P is an element of R-3. At the end we give some applications in Matlab.Article Activities of Cholinesterases, Adenosine Deaminase and Myeloperoxidase in Patients With Familial Mediterrenean Fever(Baycinar Medical Publ-baycinar Tibbi Yayincilik, 2012) Ozkol, Halil; Ediz, Levent; Sekeroglu, Ramazan; Tekeoglu, Ibrahim; Keskin, SiddikObjective: The aim of this study was to determine Acetylcholinesterase (AChE), Butyrilcholinesterase (BChE), Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) and Myeloperoxidase (MPO) activities in patients with Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) during attacks and attack-free periods. Although an inflammatory process is the main pathology in FMF, the activities of AChE, BChE and MPO which might be affected by inflammation has not yet been assessed in FMF. Materials and Methods: The subjects were divided into 3 groups: Group 1. FMF patients in acute attack period (FMF-AP); Group 2. FMF patients in attack-free period (FMF-AFP); Group 3. Healthy Control subjects (HC). The first two groups consisted of 41 and 35 patients, respectively. Thirty individuals without a history of other potential health problems constituted the healthy control (HC) group. We measured the activities of MPO, ADA, AChE and BChE in whole blood and serum of the study groups. Acute phase reactants (AFP) were also evaluated. Results: In the current study, while ADA and MPO activities increased, AChE decreased significantly in both whole blood and serum in FMF-AP group, BChE decreased in only whole blood in this group compared with FMF-AFP and HC groups (p<0.05). In FMF-AP group, both whole blood and serum ADA (r=0.313, r=0.267), and MPO (r=0.341, r=0.253) activities were correlated with C-reactive protein, respectively (all p values <0.001). Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that there are significant differences between FMF-AP and other groups in terms of AChE, BChE, ADA and MPO activities. Thus, we suggest that elevated ADA, MPO and decreased AChE and BChE activities may be considered as supportive markers to distinguish FMF attacks from attack-free periods. However, further larger-scale studies are needed to validate these results. The study comprised 15 men (mean age 36.7 +/- 10.43 years) who received acupuncture treatment, 16 men (mean age 38.4 +/- 10.75 years) who underwent hypnosis (mean age 35.3 +/- 11.52 years) and 29 men (mean age 36.2 +/- 11.38 pears) who served as controls. They were interviewed periodically; the patients' reports were verified by interviewing their partners. Men who received placebo had a 43-47% improvement in sexual function, while the rates of improvement in the treated groups were higher, but not significantly so. The success rates of acupuncture and hypnotic suggestions were 60% and 75%, respectively. Although the improvement was nor statistically significant, treatment with acupuncture could be used as an adjuvant therapy in non-organic male sexual dysfunction. The only treatment superior to placebo seemed to be hypnosis. A more effective treatment may be obtained by combining these therapeutic modalities, but this needs further study.Article Acute Cyanide Poisoning After Eating Apricot Pits: a Case Report(Galenos Yayincilik, 2012) Kaya, Avni; Okur, Mesut; Ustyol, Lokman; Temel, Hayrettin; Caksen, HuseyinThe stones and seeds of some plants such as apples, apricots, and peaches contain significant amounts of cyanide glycosides. Apricot pits are more toxic as they contain higher amounts of cyanogens and release hydrogen cyanide more easily. A previously healthy 27-month old male patient was admitted to our emergency department as intubated. His history revealed that he was intubated in the hospital where he was taken to with the complaint of fainting after having eaten numerous apricot pits with other family members. His general status was poor and he was unconscious. Both of his pupils were reactive. His deep tendon reflexes were increased and his plantar reflex was extensor bilaterally. The case was diagnosed as cyanide intoxication and the patient was admitted to the intensive care unit. Oxygen was constinuosly given under observation. After administration of hydroxocobalamine and sodium bicarbonate and correction of sodium deficit the patient regained consciousness and his general health improved. On the second day of admittance, he was discharged with a stable condition. This case was presented to emphasize that parents should not feed small children with apricot pits. METHODS: All cases with a diagnosis of acute intoxication admitted to the Pediatric Emergency Department of the Yuzuncu Yil University of Van from June 1, 2010 to November 30, 2011 were evaluated. We retrospectively examined the medical records for demographical and etiological characteristics of patients below 17 years of age. RESULTS: A total of 239 intoxications were recorded. The majority of patients were under 5 years of age. Pharmaceutical agents were identified in 137 (57.3%) patients. Antidepressants with a majority of tricyclic antidepressants were the most common drugs (29.9%). Non-pharmaceutical agents were identified in 102 (42.6%) patients, 38.2% of which were insecticides-pesticides following by plants (25.4%) and carbon monoxide (17.6%). The majority (93.8%) of cases were accidental poisonings. Fourteen cases of intoxications occurred as suicide attempts and 85.7% (N.=12) of those patients were girls. Of all cases, gastric lavage was performed in 36.4% and activated charcoal administration in 53%. After hospitalization, only 23 (9.6%) of all patients received specific treatment besides symptomatic treatment. Specific treatments involved hemodialysis and antidotes such as biperiden, ethanol, atropine, neostigmine and pralidoxime. During the study period, one patient died due to acute intoxication of pesticide. The mortality rate was 0.4%. CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed that pharmaceuticals were the most common cause of acute intoxications. While, insecticides-pesticides and plants were the leading non-pharmaceutic agents. Our data is important because it is one of few original reports on children with intoxication in Eastern Turkey.Article Acute Myotoxic Effects of by Infusion of Prilocaine and Lidocaine in Rats(Medwell online, 2009) Ragbetli, M. C.; Yalama, M.; Erdogan, E.; Cengiz, N.; Kati, I.; Ragbetli, C.We assumed to examine the acute myotoxic effects of infusion of the local anesthetic lidocaine and prilocaine on the gluteus maximus muscle after continuous peripheral nerve blockade in rats. Eight adult female Sprague-Dawley average weighing 150-200 g rats were used in this study. Firstly, all of the animals were anesthetized with ketamine (50 mg kg(-1)) for 6 h. Then, prilocaine (right) and lidocaine (left) were used in equal volume (5 mg mL(-1)) for continuous peripheral nerve blockades of the posterior extremity at a rate of 0.3 mL h(-1) for a total period of 6 h in 5 animals. The remaining 3 animals as control group were treated with physiological saline on both sides at 0.3 mL h(-1) for a total period of 6 h. For routine histological observation, the infusion area was dissected and tissue samples including peripheral muscle were taken. For routine histological observation, the infusion area was dissected and tissue samples including peripheral muscle were taken. Method histological hazards as myotoxicite were not observed in skeletal muscle tissue after the infusion of prilocaine and lidocaine. There were no complications cases of local anesthesia. Prilocaine and lidocaine as local anesthetics might be applied safely by infusion.Article Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Occurred After Hanging Result of the Attached To Rope: a Case Report(Aves, 2012) Kaya, Avni; Okur, Mesut; Akbayram, Sinan; Avcu, Serhat; Acikgoz, Mehmet; Dogan, Murat; Akil, MuhammedA-13-year-old male patient was admitted to our emergency unit because of near-hanging while playing with a rope. On physical examination, his general condition was not good, his state of consciousness was evaluated to be stuporous and his spontaneous respiration was weak. The patient had been intubated. The Glasgow coma score was 7. Rope marks were observed on his neck. Thorax computed tomography revealed widespread ground-glass appearance and bilateral parenchymal consolidation in the lungs. This findings correlated with acute respiratory distress syndrome. This case was reported for reminding that acute respiratory distress syndrome can be associated with near-hanging.
