Examination of Postgraduate Theses About Refugees in the Field of Education in Turkey

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the post-graduate theses concerning refugee / asylum seekers in Turkey. In this context, 73 postgraduate theses written on under the title of “education and training” in the YÖKTEZ national thesis database were examined. This study was conducted with qualitative research method and the data were collected using document analysis technique. The sample of the study was determined by criterion sampling, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods. A thesis review form suitable for the purpose of the study was developed by the researcher to examine the theses. Descriptive analysis method was used for analyzing the data, figures and graphics were used in the presentation of the data. As a result of the study, it was determined that there has been a significant increase in the theses concerning the refugees in recent years, and the theses are generally master’s theses. It-was concluded that the study group is mostly children and teachers, generally small samples are used, qualitative method is used predominantly in theses, and interview forms are mostly used in the theses. In addition, it was found that the theses are generally about the problems in the education of refugees, language development, psychosocial development and multiculturalism © 2021.
