A Case of Salmonella Typhi Mesenteric Lymphadenitis Accompanied by Acute Abdomen and Pancytopenia

| dc.description.abstract | Presenting with abdominal pain in the right lower quadrant and mimicking acute appendicitis, mesenteric lymphadenitis can lead to unnecessary surgical interventions, especially in children. We present a case of a 16-year-old female with Salmonella typhi mesenteric lymphadenopathy, who was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of acute abdomen, including severe abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting. In addition, because of the pancytopenia, the prolongation of the prothrombin time and the hypofibrinogenemia, the clinical picture was similar to disseminated intravascular coagulation. After the growth of S. typhi in blood cultures, she was successfully treated with ciprofloxacin. | en_US |
