Abstract
This research aimed to determine the antioxidant properties, protective properties against DNA damage, anti-lipid peroxidation and antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles (Ag NPs/Ac) derived from the Agrocybe cylindracea mushroom. DNA damage inhibition activity of Ag NPs/Ac was visualized using the horizontal electrophoresis method. Ag NPs/Ac effectively prevented DNA damage, providing 96.2435% protection at the highest concentration of 100 mu g/ml. Compared with the positive controls BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole) and BHT (Butylated Hydroxy Toluene), the lipid peroxidation inhibition activity of Ag NPs/Ac was 96.36% at 500 mu g/ml and was quite close to the positive controls. DPPH radical quenching activity for BHA, BHT, alpha-Tacopherol (alpha-Tac), and Ag NPs/Ac was found to be 97.442%, 96.019%, 95.472%, and 95.649%, respectively. The results demonstrated the remarkable radical quenching activity of Ag NPs/Ac. Ag NPs/Ac exhibited antimicrobial activity against pathogenic microorganisms such as Bacillus cereus, Enterococcus faecium, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, which cause various diseases in humans. As a result, the existence of a new biomaterial suitable for cost-effective and large-scale production in the synthesis of Ag NPs and its potential on health were demonstrated for the first time. It is thought that the data obtained from this study will be applicable in many fields, especially pharmacology, chemistry and food science, and will make a significant contribution to the literature.
